Obituary For Scott Kenneth Mutch
In Loving Memory of Scott Kenneth Mutch
April 10, 1991 – April 11, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle, Scott.
Scott was born in Grande Prairie, and lived his whole life here, always staying close to his family home on Flying Shot Lake. From his earliest years, he idolized his big sister, Jasmine, and more recently, was a doting and adoring uncle to Jasmine’s two beautiful children, Cedrick and Syliva. Scott was a big kid at heart, and having some real, live kids to connect to brought him so much joy.
Scott attended elementary school at Harry Balfour, and then went on to Peace Wapiti Academy, where he completed Grade 12. After high school, he attended Fairview College and took welding. As a kid, he was always very active, and was a talented athlete. He excelled at volleyball, but he was crazy about soccer, a passion he shared with his mum, and which he played from the age of four years, until he was twenty-one.
He was also a talented musician, and he played trombone in the school band. The band gave Scott the opportunity to travel all over the country, and the world. He was very dedicated to these trips and worked hard to do the fundraising necessary to make them happen – he took the opportunities he was offered very seriously, and always made the most of them.
Scott was a quick learner, and a hard worker all his life. His first job was in Grade 9, and he was always a very responsible and diligent employee. He was always determined to do a good job and could always adjust to meet whatever expectations people had of him. In 2009, when he was only eighteen years old, he started with Dobson Oilfield, and this is when his pipeliner family began. Scott worked alongside his dad at Dobson, and it was during this time that a different bond began between the two of them, as Scott matured into an adult, and the two men learned to appreciate each other on a whole new level.
Even as a very little boy, Scott was always trying to carry around things that were too big for him – it was just his nature. He was a kind and gentle giant, and he was willing to help out anyone who needed him. He left a big impression on people who knew him, and he leaves a very large hole in our hearts, and our lives. All we can do now is come together to remember him, and to find comfort in our shared memories, and our shared grief.
Scott was an animal lover; he loved all animals, but was especially fond of his dogs – Bud, a rescue Pitbull who passed a year before Scott, and his newest baby – a pit bull named Lou. Anyone who wishes to do so, can make a donation in his name to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association in lieu of flowers, so that he can continue to pursue his passion for animals, and for helping others.
Scott was predeceased by two sets of grandparents who meant a lot to him. Lily and William Mearns, who he drove to her 80th birthday party in his sports car, blasting bag pipe music, which she loved, and Ernest and Stella Mutch, the grandma who inspired and encouraged the baking bug in Scott.
Scott will be lovingly remembered by his dad, Ken, his mum Jennifer, his sister, Jasmine (Sheldon), his nephew, Cedrick, his niece, Sylvia, as well as numerous Aunties, Uncles, cousins and family friends.
We will be having a celebration of Scott’s life on Saturday, May 11 at 2:00pm at Lake Saskatoon Hall – 83007 Township Road 772. Please join us to honour him, and to support those he has left behind.
