Our father V. Lorne Phillips has passed away in Edmonton on 4 Jun, 2024 at the age of 83.
He was born in High River Alberta. Dad met our Mom (Maureen) in the 50’s. He spent some time time in the Air Force working as a photo technician. One of his tours was with 407 Squadron in Comox British Columbia. He was responsible for processing images taken in support of Cold War long range patrol missions on aircraft patrolling Canada’s coastline and the Pacific ocean.
After his time in the Airforce, Dad returned to Edmonton and began working for his father in the family business. He married Mom in 1961 and began doing day to day senior leadership roles.
The companies operations were in all places remote (where our family resided) and ending up in Slave Lake when only cutlines a “goat roads” existed North of that town.
The company was eventually dissolved and our family returned to Edmonton when he joined the Edmonton Fire Department in 1970 and he served 25 years, primarily in South Edmonton ending his career as a Captain.
He enjoyed long annual vacations to Honolulu in Hawaii. He would spend weeks each year there decompressing and enjoying his daily swims in the ocean. Mom passed in 2012 and Dad continued that activity to the end.
Dad is survived by his sons Roy (Marla) and Glenn (Lizanne), 4 grandchildren (Raelee, Blaine, Jessica and Morgan,) a vast number of brothers & sisters in law along with nieces & nephews.
Cremation has taken place. At Dad’s direction, there will be no memorial service or funeral.
