Shirley Law’s family is saddened to announce her passing on June 7, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 93.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her four children: Terri Abbott (Bill – deceased) of Woodstock, Ontario, Jim Law (Norma) of Port Rowan, Ontario, Bob Law (Shirley – deceased) of Oxford Centre, Ontario, and Geoffrey Law (Kathy) of Edmonton, Alberta.
Shirley’s ten grandchildren will always have fond memories of their visits with their Grandma Law, as she enjoyed spending time with them: Tony (Cori) Law, Ron (Alison) Law, Lee Ann Abbott, Melissa (Mitsuo) Fujinaga, Heather (Adam) Baker, Jonathan (Kaylee) Law, Robert (Kristin) Law, David Law, Daniel Law, and Jennifer (Dan) Evans. Shirley was also blessed with twenty great-grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Ardiel Lancelot Foster, in 1959.
Shirley’s life journey began in the village of Thorndale, Ontario, where she and her nine siblings were raised by her parents, George and Hilda Moore. She married Ardiel Foster in 1946 and they moved to a farm of their own where they started their family, having four children. Sadly, Ardiel passed away in 1959. In the early 1960’s Shirley remarried and moved to Alberta. She kept close ties to her Ontario family and returned often to visit her siblings and their families in the London area and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley never shied away from hard work, and she even moved to Yellowknife to work for a time before she enrolled in college and studied to attain her Registered Nursing Assistant designation. She enjoyed a 14-year nursing career in the Smokey Lake area of Alberta. Edmonton became her home after she retired from nursing in 1999. Failing health in 2020 necessitated a move to a retirement residence. Her family extends their thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Auxillary Hospital who cared for Shirley and showed their compassion over these past years that she resided there.
Cremation has taken place and Shirley’s remains will make a last trip home to Ontario. A graveside service will be held near Thorndale in July.
Memorial Donations may be made in Shirley’s name to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to your local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which Shirley attended faithfully.
