Ricky Eleanor Thompson, 68, following a series of hospitalizations for recurring pneumonia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 7, 2024, with family by her side.
She was born in 1945, in Lashburn, Saskatchewan, to parents William and Lettie Trent. She grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, before moving with her family to Calgary in her mid-teens, where she started working at City Hall.
While attending a United Church Young People’s Group in 1962, Ricky met her husband, Dale Thompson. She often told the story, how she heard his laughter, and their eyes met across the crowded room. It was love at first sight. They married in 1964 and had two children, son, Neil, and daughter, Christine, and later adopted their
grand-daughter, Yvonne.
The family moved to Regina in 1967, then Quebec in 1972, finally returning to St. Albert in 1980, where Ricky spent the rest of her days. She was a homemaker who excelled at parenting, cooking, and gardening, while also managing core business details for two software companies she owned with a friend.
Ricky loved to socialize, attending parties, and going to dances. She enjoyed art, poetry, and flower arranging, finding joy and beauty in the small things in life. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and she was always there to listen to a friend or stranger with warmth and kindness.
Ricky was predeceased by her parents, William and Lettie; her in-laws, Vance and Katherine; and other members of her extended family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dale Thompson; sister, Valerie Trent; her children: Neil (Tracy) Thompson, Christine Thompson, and Yvonne Thompson; her grandchildren: Justin (Eden) Thompson, Jaime (Neil) Cook, and Jory (Shayla) Thompson; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Ricky expressed a strong belief in God, faith, love, and forgiveness. She will be dearly missed.
