Kent Thomas Froehlich swam his last length on January 3, 2024, leaving behind a wave of grief. Kent passed away at the young age of 41, after a 2.5 week battle in the U of A ICU with Severe Group A Strep Pneumonia, where he continually amazed doctors and nurses with his strength and determination.
Kent will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Kaitlin, and their two beautiful children, Veronica and Dexter. Kent’s life is defined by his great love for his family. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for them.
Kent grew up in Red Deer, where he excelled at both athletics and academics, swimming competitively and taking the IB program. Kent loved being an only child to Cheryl and Harv, and made brothers out of his best friends. Kent graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 2008. He went on to obtain his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in just 2.5 years, which few have done. Kent spent nearly 16 years building his career at Capital Power, where his colleagues will greatly miss his tenacity, analytical mind, and charming self.
Kent was a passionate and devoted individual. This came through in all aspects of his life, including his competitiveness in games, zeal for fitness, and insatiable need to learn new skills and hobbies. This passion is one of many wonderful attributes that he passed on to his children. Kent was the most amazing and devoted father to Veronica and Dexter. Nothing gave him greater joy than seeing them accomplish new things, or say and do silly things. Kent’s sense of humour, great intellect, protective nature, and thoughtful romantic streak made him a perfect partner for Kaitlin. They spent over 18 years together, weathering the hardest times and celebrating the greatest joys, but mostly enjoying the beauty of everyday moments together.
Kent is also survived by his parents, Cheryl and Harvey Froehlich; in-laws, Henri and Patti St. Pierre, Brandon Weis, Ian (Kelsey) St. Pierre, Erin (Dan) Schwartz, nephews Lincoln, Harrison, Hugo, and Ronan; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, especially Jeff Wilson, Rylan Kafara, and Matt Lemay. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Lucille and Thomas Froehlich and Allie and Butch Halvorsen, and his sister-in-law Meghan Weis.
A Celebration of Kent’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 13, 2023, at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street NW, Edmonton.
In lieu of generous meals and beautiful flowers, memorial donations may be made to the GoFundMe page to set up an education fund for Kent’s children. To donate, please click here.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home.
