Obituary
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7
With deep gratitude for a life well lived, coupled with sadness at the loss, we announce the passing of our dear dad, Horst Doberstein. Dad went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday November 22, 2023 at the age of 89.
He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters Elaine (Gerry) Tonn, Denise (Stan) Kroeker and Miriam (Marlo) Jenkins and grandchildren: Alyssa (Jonathan) Meyer, Sheryce (Micah) Nguyen, Karyssa (Cody) Donnan , Jenna (Joel) Faszer , Lauren (Joel) Tompkins, Marriya (Scott) Bamber, Hudson (Alisha) Kroeker, Brennan (Heather) Jenkins and more recently Sophie Byun as well as 10 great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was born July 9 1934 in Julianov, near Lutzk, which was Polish territory at that time. He lost his dad at a young age but his Heavenly Father provided miraculous interventions through difficult experiences in his life. Dad would tell us about the vision of an angel, which led to a supernatural protection. The family, Oma, Bruno, Horst and Marie eventually immigrated to Canada where they settled in Kelowna BC.
At Western Pentecostal Bible College (now Summit) he met Elvine Michailyk and they were married June 15 1957 and God blessed them with three daughters: Elaine, Denise and Miriam. Elvine went to be with Jesus in 2008 and Horst missed her dearly as they were partners in life and ministry for nearly 51 years.
Together they pastored in Moosehorn, MB, then spent 10 years as global workers in Argentina, planting 3 churches there. After returning to Canada, they pastored in Chilliwack, BC and then Edmonton, AB.
After serving as Superintendent of the German Branch for a season, they then pastored in Port Colborne, ON. Dad, in his retirement took on the challenge of planting a church in Edmonton (Christian Life Centre) and then assisted in laying the groundwork for planting of Eaglemont Christian Church in Beaumont.
Dad left a legacy of love for God, his family and building the Kingdom of God. In keeping with this sentiment, if you would like to donate to a Living Memorial towards the Eaglemont Church Building Project, we would be grateful.
Funeral will be held December 1 2023 at Hope City Church, Edmonton at 1 pm. Serenity Funeral Service, Edmonton. The service will be livestreamed: hopecity.ca/stream
