On March 24, 2024, Ctibor Skoda passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
He will be remembered by his wife, Hana, of 47 years; and his children, Martin, Peter, and Christine. He was very proud of his five grandchildren, Veronika, Jasper, Jana, Shea, and Leigh.
Ctibor was born and raised on a farm in Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic. He completed his degree in Economics at Prague University, where he later became an Assistant Professor until he was offered a scholarship at the University of Alberta. It was the turbulence of the Soviet military invasion (in 1968) that prompted him to leave for Canada. Most of his working years were for the Government of Alberta, where he enjoyed working until he was 77.
His true passions were athletics and coaching his kids. He taught them soccer, skating, skiing, biking, swimming, and especially tennis. He loved playing tennis, constantly striving to improve his game and the game of his children. Martin and Peter competed in tennis at the provincial and national levels, and later became successful coaches. Christine earned a full tennis scholarship at Kansas University. He was a loving father who always wanted the best for his kids.
Ctibor and Hana designed and built their first house with the help of their friend, Joseph. A lifelong point of pride for Ctibor.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the University of Alberta Hospital for their attentive care over his last two weeks.
In lieu of flowers, please go play tennis!
