With sadness we announce the passing of Amalia “Molly” Fischbach at the age of 106 years old. Born on the family homestead near Burstall, SK on May 27, 1918, Molly went home to the Lord on December 18, 2024 in the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta.
Lovingly remembered by her two surviving daughters, Connie (Jim deceased) Nagel and Sylvia (Ted) Kwasney; nine grandchildren, Rick Nagel, Kim (Brian deceased) Johnston, Carol Pierce, Ronald (Tina) Pierce, Rodger (Laura) Pierce, Darryl (Amy) Pierce, Darcy (Lois Reid) Pierce, Brad (Tara) Kwasney and Andrea (Justin) Morris; seventeen great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; and many friends and relatives. Molly was predeceased by her six older siblings; husband of fifty years, Otto; daughter, Joan (Laverne deceased) Pierce; great-great granddaughter, Sophia Nagel; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Mom was an outgoing and hardworking wife and mother of 3 girls. She and Otto owned and operated small general stores in Burstall, SK and Morrin, AB, with their final store in Stettler, Alberta. Mom was a fan of all kinds of sports, her favourite being whatever game her cherished children were playing as she cheered. Mom was a fierce competitor: she loved to play games and competed in the Alberta Seniors’ Games.
Mom took delight in creating beautiful things, from delicious meals to all forms of needlecraft, but she especially loved music. She played guitar and piano, singing in church choirs for much of her life. For 16 years, Mom conducted the Shepherd’s Care Choir in north Edmonton.
From her exuberant greetings, big hugs and “love you more” response, Mom was sure to remind you how precious you were to her. As a woman of faith, Mom trusted in Jesus and we know her beautiful voice is now singing praises in heaven.
We thank the doctors and staff at Unit 18, Sturgeon Community Hospital, St. Albert for their kindness and compassion shown to Mom during her brief stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Alberta Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church, 51 Woodlands Road, St. Albert, Alberta
