Fred Dayman, beloved husband of Alisa Dayman (nee Snideman) passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Health Centre on April 27, 2024. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his son: Alexander Frederick Dayman; his siblings: Richard Dayman (Marie), Anne Bailey (Ed), Trudy Rowbottom (Richard), Marian Schaffer (Bill); sisters-in-law: Diana Watson (Bouke), Kristina Thompson (Mark), Rosemarie Fleury (Frank); brother-in-law: Bill Grills; his numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; as well as many other cherished friends and loved ones.
Fred was predeceased by his mother Hendrina (Dien) Dayman (nee VanHaaren) in 1999; father Frederick Dayman (Fred) in 1963; sister Sandra Grills (nee Dayman) in 2024; father- and mother-in-law David and Bunny Snideman in 2023 and 2010; and great-nephew Grayson Brost in 2011.
Fred Dayman was born in the Drumheller Hospital February 25, 1956. Fred and Alisa met in the Last Chance Saloon, were dating by 1988, and married August 25, 1991.
As a young man Fred travelled for a few years before returning home to Wayne in about 1982, and started helping his mom in the operation of the Rosedeer Hotel now called The Last Chance Saloon in Wayne. In 1983, he purchased the business from Dien Dayman and she retired at the age of 70 years. Fred and Alisa worked together for many years making the Last Chance Saloon a favourite tourism destination for people from all over the world.
Over the years Fred was very involved in his Community and family. There were baseball games, winter car racing derbies on the Rosebud River (Creek Races), hog rallies, frisbee golf, racing up the hills behind the hotel (for a trophy!), campfire sing-a-longs, swimming in the creek, family reunions, and working tirelessly and fundraising for the Wayne Community Association.
There will be a funeral mass held at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 11, 2024, with Father Lukas Drapal as celebrant. There will also be a prayer vigil held at St. Anthony’s at 7:00 pm Friday, May 10, 2024. After the service on Saturday you are cordially invited to the Last Chance Saloon in Wayne. Please join friends and family for food, refreshments, and stories – Bring your stories! We hope to see you there.
