William “Bill” Nick Ballas Obituary
William “Bill” Nick Ballas
March 29, 1949 – July 16, 2024
With profound sadness the family of William “Bill” Ballas announce his passing on July 16, 2024, at the Drayton Valley Hospital, with his family by his side. Mingled in with their sorrow and grief is the spirit of gratitude and inspiration for a life so devoted to loving his family and his community.
Cherishing all the memories and shared moments of Bill’s life is his wife of 48 years, Debbie; his children, Kelly (Shea), Amanda, BJ (Caitlin) and Christee (Lanny); his grandchildren, Aiden, Mary, Alec, Kennedy, Cooper, Brielle, Bowen and Blakely. Bill will also be lovingly remembered in the hearts of his sisters, Judy (Lloyd), Joanne (Greg) and Joyce (Wayne), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased and is now at rest with his parents, Nick and Mary Ballas and brothers Alex and Donny.
Bill was a loving husband and a dedicated father. He was not just the leader of his family, but also a source of safety and support for everyone. Bill and Debbie went on many adventures together, both with and without their children, during their 48 years of marriage. He took immense pride in his four children and eight grandchildren, and loved spending time with them and sharing their accomplishments with others. He truly was the best Grandpa / Poppa.
Bill was deeply committed to public service, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He exemplified community involvement and the significance of supporting others, consistently showing up and creating positive change wherever he went. Bill’s quiet leadership empowered those around him, and his influence has left a widespread and enduring positive effect on his family and our community.
Without a doubt, Bill’s greatest passion and inspiration came from his unbounded love for his grandchildren. The book of Proverbs (13:22) proclaims that “A good man leaves his inheritance to his children’s children.” Bill’s living inheritance to his grandchildren goes far beyond monitary measures and includes the bestowment of manners, ethics, values and principles. Indeed, Bill’s greatest purpose in life was to coach his family and help each one develop deep roots to stand in their character and strong wings to fly and become all that they can be.
Even the darkest of paths have their shining light, and Bill’s family want to express their gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses at the Mazankowski Heart Institute, the Drayton Valley Palliative Care unit, the community of Drayton Valley and the family and friends who have all been a shining light on Bill’s journey.
In the spirit of Bill’s giving to the community, the family would ask, in lieu of flowers, to consider making a donation in Bill’s name to the Drayton Valley Community Foundation, Box 6836 Stn Main, Drayton Valley, Alberta, T7A 1S2.
In honoring Bill’s wishes, no public service will take place, but the family will have a private service for Bill at a later date.
