Gordon Glimsdale Obituary
Gordon John Glimsdale June 23, 1930 – October 9, 2024 (age 94) Gordon Glimsdale, beloved husband of Barb Glimsdale, passed away peacefully at the Claresholm General Hospital on October 9, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born at the Claresholm Hospital on June 23, 1930, the first child of John and Bertha (Hoffman) Glimsdale. He was raised on the farm East of Pulteney and attended school in the district. In 1947 at the young age of 16 his father John passed away, and he stepped into the role of provider and farming became his lifelong calling. Gordon was a member of the Lutheran Church his entire life. The neighboring farm families provided him with a lifetime of warm-hearted memories, many of farming, camping, fishing, flying, motorcycling, snowmobiling and hunting. He also enjoyed travelling south in the winter to Yuma, AZ for 28 years after his retirement. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years Barb, his daughter Donna (Ron) Estabrook, and son Butch (Karin) Glimsdale, grandchildren Arianne Estabrook, Randy (Tara) Estabrook, Raylin Woodman, Tyler (Lezli) Sheen, Brady (Kaitlin) Glimsdale and Robby Glimsdale as well as 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Don (Myrna) Glimsdale and numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his father John (1947), his mother Bertha (1970), his brother Oliver (1997), and his sister Mildred (2020). Gordon will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Special thanks to Dr. Smith and all the nurses and staff at the Claresholm General Hospital for their wonderful care and kindness. A Private Family Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Claresholm and District Health Foundation, Box 610, Claresholm AB, T0L 0T0.“
For this one farmer the worries are over, lie down and rest your head,
Your time has been and struggles enough, put the tractor in the shed.
Years were not easy, many downright hard, but your faith in God transcended,
Put away your tools and sleep in peace, the fences have all been mended.
You raised a fine family, worked the land well, under the hot summer sun,
Hang up your shovel inside the barn, your work on earth is done.
A faith few possess led your journey thru life, often a jagged and stony way,
The sun is setting, the crops are harvested and here now is the end of your day.
You always believed that the good Lord would provide, and He always had somehow,
Take off your gloves and put them away, no more sweat and worry for you now.
Your labor is done, your home now is in heaven, no more must you wait,
Your legacy lives on, your love of the Land, and yes Dad – we will close the gate …
