Obituary of Robert Franklin Milliken
September 7, 1955 – Sarnia, Ontario
December 9, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
With saddened hearts, the family of Robert “Rob” Milliken of Calgary, AB, announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the age of 68, after a short battle with gastric cancer.
Rob spent his early years on family farms in Sarnia and Sault Ste. Marie. A proud ‘78 Aggie from the University of Guelph, Rob spent 37 years working in the agricultural industry holding many roles throughout his career, chiefly in sales and marketing. He gained many friends and memories with his work in Canada and Switzerland.
He was an avid sports fan, golfer, softball coach, gardener, and musician. Many car rides were spent listening to jazz while driving his girls to the rink, softball, or to band/choir practice. He took great interest in their activities and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He was a man with a wicked sense of humour, impressive business acumen, and a great friend to many. He was fortunate to travel throughout the world on business and with his family, always bringing home stories of his adventures. After retirement, Rob thoroughly enjoyed his time in Arizona with Spring Training ball games, playing golf and making new friends.
Rob is survived by his loving wife of 42 years and best friend, Marg, who will miss him dearly; loved immensely by daughters, Annelise and Kathleen (Andrew); and was a precious ‘Dodo’ to his grandchildren, Nathan, and Liam. Rob was loved by many and will be missed by all his extended family and dear friends.
If friends so desire, in memory of Rob, donations may be made directly to the Parkinson Association of Alberta, 120, 6835 Railway Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2V6 Telephone: (403) 243-9901, www.parkinsonassociation.ca. He was diagnosed in 2020 and was continually learning about this disease.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team at the South Health Campus and the staff of the Chinook Hospice for their compassionate care.
‘For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which has been planted.’ Eccl 3:1-2 (ASV)
A Celebration of Rob’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to drop in for an informal reception to share stories and fond memories of Rob.
