Obituary
Joseph Paul Levesque passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the age of 62, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and cats.
He was born on August 2, 1961, in Calgary Alberta to Joseph Camille Levesque and Edna Mary Wright. Joe was the youngest of three children; Elizabeth, Matthew, and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his mother. Joe graduated from the University of Calgary in 1986 with a BA in Economics. After spending three years gaining work experience, Joe went back to Mount Royal to complete a diploma in Land Administration. Joe continued to work as a Landman and Land Manager for various oil and gas companies until 2015 when he became a Director for Equity Research in oil and gas. Joe loved the Oil and Gas industry in Calgary and spent the last five years of his life pursuing a lifelong dream of starting his own venture.
Joe became a father at the age of 23 to Paul who was born in 1984. Although he was still in university at the time, he managed to love and care for his son. In 1993, Joe went on a blind date where he met the love of his life. He married Charlotte Louise MacPherson in 1996. They had three children, Austin born in 1997, Spencer born in 1998 and Sophie born in 2000. His four children were his pride and joy. He loved them immensely and was so proud of all of them. In 2017, Joe fell in love again, this time with his first grandson Oliver. In 2018, this love continued to grow when Benjamin was born.
Joe loved being a grandpa and created many special memories with his two grandsons. In a notebook his lifelong friend Tim Stauft left for him during the final months of his life, Joe wrote a note saying “I really love my family, I couldn’t ask for more”. Joe not only loved his family, he simply loved life. He was friendly and loved to chat with people about politics, global markets and of course, his ideas related to business. He was a mentor to his many nieces and nephews as well as many of his peers.
He was adventurous and enjoyed many things including travel, field hockey, ice hockey, skiing, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, and hoping from one gulf island to another in either his Zodiac or his “Big Boat” the Double Eagle. Joe loved the ocean and spent most summers with his family and friends at the families beloved cottage on Vancouver Island. This will remain a very special place. Joe could tell a good story and often spoke of the wonderful memories he had in his youth playing field hockey in Calgary, and for the Canadian National Team.
Joe will be lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul Levesque and Sarah Raven, and grandsons Oliver and Benjamin; his son Austin Levesque and partner Emma Charabin; his son Spencer Levesque; his daughter Sophie Levesque; his father and stepmother, Joseph and Trish Levesque; his brother and best friend Matthew Levesque and partner Deirdre Morrison; his loving sister Elizabeth Levesque and brother-in-law Peter Collins; his sister- and brother-in-law Michelle MacPherson and Randy Ollenberger; his brother- and sister-in-law, Greg and Colinda MacPherson; his dear friend Steve Caissie; his many nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly. Joe will also be remembered by his many treasured friends and peers.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Calgary (3602 8th Street SW) on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a Reception to follow. Graveside Service to follow reception at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
A special thank-you is given to Joe’s healthcare providers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and his palliative homecare team. Thank you to his thoughtful friends and family, who came to visit him both in the hospital and at home.
