David Coles Obituary
It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of the most wonderful man, David Coles. He passed peacefully on November 14, 2024, surrounded by family and love…and his Montreal Canadians blanket.
He was our Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and best friend. Dave journeyed through life with Carole Oliver for close to 60 years and was a loving husband to her for 54 years. He was a devoted Dad to us; Jodi (Jimmy), Kelly, and Tiffany. Dad was thrilled when he became a grandpa in 2006 and again in 2008 with the arrival of his Grandson Gibson and Granddaughter Meredith. His family was the centre of his world, and we felt loved always. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings. In addition to his immediate family, left to mourn are his nieces and nephews.
As a devoted husband, Dave supported Carole through her many career pursuits and adventures (and there were many). He was patient and unwavering in his support for the women in his life. He provided an environment of safety and refuge to allow for his family to explore the world as we needed to, and pursue our passions, find our joy, and return back when a safe harbour was
required. It brought him immense pride to witness his grandchildren start to forge their own independent paths with job, school and athletic pursuits.
Dad had a great love for people. His ability to easily connect with anyone and show kindness to all was evident by his large group of friends and contributed to his successful career in sales/marketing in the energy sector. Next to his family, his great love was sports. Dad was happiest in a team sport environment; playing hockey, baseball or football, coaching and supporting his daughters in all their sports endeavours, and watching his grandchildren play. On many occasions, we would arrive home to find Dad listening to one game on the radio with headphones while watching another on TV. There was not an athlete he couldn’t recite stats on or a game he wouldn’t watch. He enjoyed being a sports spectator until his final hours.
Some of his most cherished memories were created while away on annual golf trips with his lifelong buddies. This past summer he enjoyed his 25th year of golf with his group of close friends. He had no shortage of friends that he enjoyed quality time with. Much of this social interaction early in his life was centred around music and dancing. He was particularly fond of Motown music and sang and danced at any opportunity he could find. Dad had a unique and rare connection with his Son-in-law Jimmy. They enjoyed shared interests; everyday life things like lunch at the Legion, talking on the deck, or testing new drivers. Laughing and enjoying his friend’s company brought him endless joy. He was a loyal and loving friend.
We are heartbroken in our loss but grateful beyond measure for his love. It is comforting to know he touched so many lives. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held in March 2025.
