Rose McConville
May 12, 1929 – Sep 19, 2024
Rose McConville (nee Koflik) passed away peacefully at St. Martha’s Place in Banff, Alberta at the age of 95 years. She is survived and much loved by her sister Ruby Koflik, brother Russell Koflik; children Jane Malton, Marilyn Beddow, Carol Jamison, Linda Schultz (Jerry) and John McConville ( Kate); grandchildren Jennifer, Sean ,Melissa, Warren, Kevin, Ashley, Eric, Ian, Bran and Finn, and great-grandchildren Niya, Tristan, Juliet, Roxanne, Lucas, Noah, Isabella, Jackson, Samuel and Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was born and raised in Wabamun, Alberta in a family of twelve children. Her parents, Jacob (Jack) and Anastasia (Nellie) Koflik (nee Florkewich) were raised in villages twenty miles apart in the Lviv region of Ukraine, but didn’t meet each other until they immigrated to Canada.
Rose met her husband John when they were both working at the Mount Royal Hotel in Banff. They raised their five children in their home on Muskrat Street. Rose was a loving and devoted mom. She derived much joy from creating and sharing simple things in life and making them special, such as making a comfortable and welcoming home for her family and friends, cooking delicious meals and baking wonderful treats, and creating beautiful holiday memories. In her “spare’ time she knit skating outfits and Barbie clothes for her girls; and created a flower filled oasis in her backyard. In the summertime, she loved to gather with her children and grandchildren for “happy hour” on the patio.
Rose spent many happy years working with Bud and Annette
and crew at the Brewster BBQ Donut tent. In the mid-seventies,
Rose transitioned to full-time employment with the Hudson Bay Co.
in Banff, where she went on to have a long and successful career
doing a job that she loved.
In retirement, Rose continued to do the things she loved the most.
A lifelong sports fan, she was then able to devote more time to
following her beloved Edmonton Oilers, Edmonton Eskimos and the Toronto Blue Jays
In 2012 she moved to Coquitlam, BC to spend time with family there. She returned to the mountains in 2017 and moved into Origin at Spring Creek in Canmore. Rose enjoyed her time at Origin until returning to Banff in 2020 where she became a resident of St.Martha’s Place.
Rose lived her life with a real joy in all that she did. We will miss her tremendously but in our hearts we know she is at peace.
The family wishes to extend our enormous gratitude to Dr. Emma Morin of Canmore and Dr. Elisabeth Brodeur of Banff, and to all the staff at Origin in Canmore and St. Martha’s Place in Banff who cared for Rose these past few years. We cannot thank you enough for your kindness and excellent care. Special thanks to Abegail and Linda for your love and friendship.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Banff on Saturday, November 16th.
Details to follow in early November in the Rocky Mountain Outlook.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations made be made to St. Martha’s Place, Mineral Springs Hospital, P.O. Box 1050, Banff, Alberta, T1L 1H7.
