Brian Hand of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, April 15th, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Brian leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren, Kyle (Norma-Jean) Bakalar and Brianna Bakalar (Alexander Woodworth); great grandchildren, Grace Woodworth, Harmony Woodworth, Nyla Bakalar; as well as step great- granddaughter, Mya Walsh. He is predeceased by his daughter, Melanie Bakalar. Brian worked at the Suffield Base (DRES), for 35 years and retired in 1994. He was a very active coach in the Medicine Hat Hockey Association. Brian was also very active in the Medicine Hat Legion, the CNIB and Knights of Columbus. In Brian’s spare time he would enjoy going for coffee with his coffee buddies. He loved everything about hockey; playing, coaching and cheering on his favorite team while watching them on tv. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4V3 on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 2:30 pm with Father Iqbal Khurshid officiating. Family and friends are also welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to www.youtube.com and joining the live webcast on Medicine Hat Holy Family Church on the above date and time. Interment will follow at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Brian’s name may be made to Alberta Diabetes Foundation, 1 – 020 HRIF-East, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB T6G 2E1.
