Bernice Mary (Phinney)
Snowdon was Born May 15, 1927 and passed December 10,
2022 in her 96th year. She was predeceased by
her parents, Kenneth and Della Mae Phinney, siblings Marjorie, Nellie
and Ernest, husband Emerson, sons Bruce and William, daughter Judith
and grandson William. Survived by her siblings Reva (Cook) and Vernon,
sons Robert, Kenneth and Alan, and numerous grandchildren, great
grandchildren and relatives.

Mom retained fond memories of growing up on the
family farm in Brooklyn Road, Midgic. After moving to
Sackville to work at the age of 14 she met Emerson Snowdon and in 1943
embarked on an adventure that took her to military bases across the
country with a final posting to Trenton, Ontario in 1960. As
her children began to leave home and Dad retired from the air force to
establish his own business, Mom longed to be back in Brooklyn. She had
a little cottage built and began spending summers in the area again,
enjoying the company of her parents and siblings. After Dad passed she
moved from Trenton to Brooklyn full-time and enjoyed an active, busy
life for many years. Eventually she moved into Sackville and, after a
series of increasingly debilitating strokes, spent the last several
years of her life at the Drew Nursing Home.

Mom’s life was full of challenges. Raising
a large family was a test at the best of times and in the early years
of their marriage Dad’s job took him away from home for long
periods of time. Mom was resilient and resourceful, relying on her own
work ethic and the community of air force wives that kept the home
fires burning. She dealt with the loss of a new born in 1945, her
youngest child in 1966, her eldest in 1985, and her husband in 1992.
Returning ‘down home’ to Brooklyn brought her a
sense of peace, tranquility and joyfulness whether she was tending her
blueberries, travelling the backroads in her old car, or spending time
with her siblings. Mom was a great listener, supportive of family and
friends, and she enjoyed listening to music and loved to sing. A
fabulous baker, she made sure that, in our younger years, birthdays
and holidays were celebrated with special baked treats that included
nickels, dimes and quarters wrapped in waxed paper. Mom had a good
life; she is at peace now and sadly missed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street,
Sackville, NB. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 29,
2023 at 11:00am at the Midgic Cemetery for Bernice and her son,
William.
