Obituary
Audrey Leone Racher Ellis passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta. She died peacefully surrounded by some of her family after a brief illness. Her death follows closely after her husband Jim (James William Ellis), who died August 3, 2023.
Audrey was born June 24, 1927 in Calgary, Alberta. She was the tenth, out of eleven children of Fransis (Frank) S. Racher and Ruby Grace (Long) Racher. She is predeceased by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters who were: Walter (Maleta Fath) (Sally), Doris (Donald Campbell), Mable (James Davey), Robert [Glenn] (Esther Olson), Ida, Evelyn (Alvie Bjornson), Ralph, Clive, William [Bill] (Laquita Lomheim), and Alma (Howard Orcutt). She was also predeceased by son William (Bill) James Ellis (2018) and grand daughter Shanna Jill Ellis (2007).
She thought of her family as her greatest accomplishment. She will be remembered by her cookies, quilts, chocolates, family history books, and cinnamon buns. Always serving with a big smile and a giggle. She was the mother of nine children. Bette (Neil) Forsyth, William [Bill] (Susan), Barbara, Robert (Kay), David (Wendy), Carol, Diann (Gordon) Oliver, Mark (Bonnie), and James (LeAnn). Audrey has 43 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.
She was raised on a farm west of Champion on Fireguard Road. She went to school in Champion from grade one to grade twelve.
Audrey married James W. Ellis on February 17, 1948 in Calgary, Alberta and they moved to the farm house of Jim’s grandparents on Coalmine Road where she raised her family. She moved with Jim to Vulcan in 2020.
Audrey joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1947. She actively served in the church and community while she raised her children. She and Jim served together as a mission couple (1989) in the Minnesota, Minneapolis Mission for the church. They served in the Cardston Temple for ten years.
Audrey continued to enjoy her neighbours, her children, and grandchildren for many years as they were always welcome to visit and enjoy their time with her on the farm.
Friends may meet the family on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – 203 4 St, Champion, Alberta,
The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Champion Cemetery.
The service will be livestreamed for those that wish, the link will be available 15 minutes prior to the service at the bottom of the obituary.
