Aranka Major lovingly known as Goldie passed away peacefully at Blenheim Lodge on December 28, 2022. Goldie was predeceased by her loving husband Richard Major in 2017 and her sister Maria in 2015.
Survived by her 3 daughters, Klara (Tamás), Sylvi (Frank), Andi (Dave) and her 6 grandchildren Kristof, Marton, Katrina, Hayley, Mason and Riley.
Goldie was born on May 3rd, 1932 and spent her youth in Sopron, Hungary. She met her husband in the same town while he was attending University and they married in 1953.
Goldie and Richard made the brave decision to leave Hungary with their young daughter Klara and Richard’s mother during the 1956 Revolution to start a new life in Canada, finally settling in Vancouver.
Goldie’s tenacity and resourcefulness to always help others was her strongest attribute. She worked tirelessly volunteering for her church community, caring for many neighbourhood children, and sending countless care packages to relatives in Hungary.
She was a very visual person with a sense of style for fashion and her passions included sewing, cooking, gardening and organizing a bounty of family photos.
Although our hearts are heavy with sadness, we are comforted in knowing that she is no longer suffering from a lengthy struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.
We are grateful for the loving care and attention she received from the Blenheim Lodge Care Team.
Dear Anya, your love and light guides us; may you rest in eternal peace.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
