It is with deep sadness and much love that the family of Anthony Lawrence announces his passing on July 19, 2023 in Brooks, Alberta at the age of 73.
Anthony, or better known as Tony, was born in Malawi, Africa on June 12, 1950. Tony attended school in both India and Malawi before moving to London, England where he trained and worked as an automotive mechanic. He married his wife, Maria-Yvonne (Yvonne) in 1977 and had their first son, Wayne in 1980.
In 1981, Tony and Yvonne immigrated to Calgary, Canada where they had their second son, Gary, in 1983. Living in Calgary allowed Tony to enjoy the outdoors which included camping, fishing, and hunting all over western Canada and the United States.
At the age of 64, Tony retired and spent the majority of his time with his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Throughout retirement, Tony continued to travel the world, enjoying many fishing and hunting trips with his two sons. He later expanded his love for the outdoors through gardening and growing his own vegetables.
Tony was known by his family and friends as a generous person and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was always up for a laugh while sipping on some scotch and had a love for the dance floor. You could always spot him busting a move whenever “The Twist” by Chubby Checker or “Rasputin” by Boney M was being played.
Tony is survived, and will be extremely missed, by his wife, Yvonne; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne (Seema) and Gary (Kiran); and his four grandchildren, Asha, Deo, Ijay, and Zayd all of Calgary, Alberta. Tony is also survived by his sisters Anne (Simon) and Avril (Owen) as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Tony was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Nora Lawrence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 1:00 pm with Reception to follow at the church.

Each year in the mid to late 80’s and early 90’s, Tony dressed up as an elf and helped his good friend and the founder of the charity (Bob Johnston), who dressed as Santa, and delivered presents to families in need on Christmas Eve.
