Obituary
Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Anson passed away at Rotary Hospice on July 3, 2023, after a lengthy and courageous battle.
Faith and family defined Anson’s life. He lived his faith quietly and authentically and instilled those same values in each of his children. A dedicated member of Bethel Church for over 60 years, Anson was a faithful servant who offered his time and skills freely whenever a need arose. He drove for Bethel’s bus ministry for 20+ years, served on the Board for multiple terms, and tackled any carpentry need in the church.
Anson enjoyed playing golf for many years, as well as being an avid Blue Jays fan. A decades-long fan of the Stratford Cullitons, Anson enjoyed spending countless Friday evenings at the arena cheering on his favourite team. A voracious reader, Anson always had a book or newspaper in his hand.
Anson was a skilled carpenter and welder and enjoyed giving back to his community with many years’ service to the House of Blessing and Meals on Wheels.
Anson was the ninth of ten children born to parents Ezra and Louisa B. Martin (deceased).
Survived by devoted wife Sharon Noble (Martin). Loving father of son, Douglas Martin (Dianne) daughters, Denise Major (Bill), and Krista Friend (Eric). Fondly remembered by stepdaughters Cindy Noble and Cathy Noble (Steve). Proud grandfather of Kyle, Michelle, Cassidy (Alex), Aliyah, Zoe, Keaton, Owen, and Hannah. Proud great-grandfather of Ardy Behzadi and will be missed by furry friend, Argo.
Survived by his sister, Lovina Ruttan (Leo – deceased), brother Mervin Martin (Alma), and sisters-in-law Naomi Martin and Erma Martin. Predeceased by his parents Ezra and Louisa Martin, Adeline (and Orland) Martin, Elmina (and Jacob) Brubacher, and Mary Ann (and Sam) Martin, as well as brothers Milton, Onias (Emma), Wayne, and Leander Martin.
Also predeceased by his first wife, Betty (Crits) Martin and mother-in-law Eileen (Sewell) Crits. Lovingly missed by the entire Crits family.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. Funeral service at Bethel Church, 2988 Highway 7/8 Stratford on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11am. Luncheon to follow. Interment at Avondale Cemetery at 1:45pm. Donations to Rotary Hospice or Bethel Church may be made through the church or funeral home.
