Deshaw: Anna (néeSchmalz) –
A resident of Ridgetown, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the age of 92.
Born in Ciko, Hungary August 20, 1930, Anna was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (née Koster) Schmalz.
Beloved wife of the late Harold F. Deshaw (1981). Loving mother of Fred (Tracy) of Ridgetown, David (Susan) of Ottawa, Larry (Angela) of Ridgetown. Fondly remembered by Janet Deshaw and Sharon Mason. Loving grandmother to Kara (Chuck), Justine, Lauren (Brigan), Joseph and Erika. Predeceased by her sister Mary McLaren (Alex).
Anna emigrated to Canada in 1938. Her father had emigrated in 1930 before her birth. At 8 years old and speaking no English, she started school at Clearville. In 1956 she married Harold and they made their home on the family farm at Duart. Later they made their home in McKays Corners and finally Ridgetown. Anna loved to bake, knit and read. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially holidays and birthdays.
Thanks to the special care at Revera Village on the Ridge and to Nicole Zonderland and Joyce Smith for their care prior to moving to the Village.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Ridgetown on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11:00am.
Interment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 12006 O’Neill Line in Ridgetown.
Donations made in memory of Anna to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
