Alexander “Alex”‘s Obituary
MCINTOSH, Alexander “Alex” Joseph – It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Alexander J. McIntosh of Yarmouth on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the age of 89. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Bernie and Jesse McIntosh.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carmel; son-in-law, Paul Dion; grandson, Sebastian Edwards; brother, Stephen; sister, Judy.
Besides his brother John, Dad is survived by his children, Linda (Paul Dion, deceased); Ken (Liz Iwasko); Laurie (Alan Edwards); grandchildren, Maxine, Tiffany, Kyle, Stephen and Erin; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Oliver, Kaleb, Alexis and Sophia; and daughters by choice, Rosanne (Deveau) Gibson and Nora Muise.
After a lengthy career with Air Canada, Dad decided on a second career and in 1984 was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly. After leaving politics he tried to retire but was soon back to work; this time in the real estate business. He retired for the final time at 80 years of age.
Dad was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He held many positions within the organization, including being elected State Deputy in 1971. In 2019 he had the honor of being presented with the Award of Excellence, only given to one member a year.
We would like to thank the staff of the Veteran’s Unit for making a home for Dad this past 6 months. We would also like to thank Dr. Marais, Pam, the VON, Home Care and all those involved in Dad’s care for the past 3 years.
As all who knew Dad can attest, he loved the church, his family, politics and people! He will be greatly missed, especially by his family who firmly believe he was the best Dad, Grampy and GG (great grandfather) ever!
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Following the committal a reception will be held in the Jubilee Room. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Alex may be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice.
