Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts to announce the sudden passing of Adrian James Payne, at the age of 74 years old on August 12th, 2023, at the Bonne Bay Health Center in Norris Point.
Predeceased by his parents, Clayton and Doris (nee House) Payne, grandparents Joseph and Margaret Payne and Augustus and Caroline House. Siblings Melvin and Bradley Payne, and a large number of Aunts and uncles.
Left to morn with fond memories, Uncle Bradley (Margaret) House, Aunts Elizabeth and Sarah Payne and his Great aunt Fanny Bennett. His Godson Theo Melvin House, his special friend, Levern Gilley and her family, as well as a large circle of cousins, family and life-long friends.Adrian always knew who to call on, Darlene and her family.
Adrian spent many years teaching in Newfoundland. Before he retired, he spent the last 10+ years of his teaching career in Hall Beach, Iqaluit, where he made many friends and was known to many as being a favorite teacher. When Adrian came home on his holidays, he would tell stories about his wonderful experiences and was always proud to show off his special handmade crafts.
Adrian had a love for the Gros Morne Theatre Festival. When he was in good health, Adrian would not miss a Neddy Norris Night performance. He loved the music and tall tales, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with all cast and crew members. He also enjoyed volunteering his time at the Annual Lobster Festival.
We would like to send a sincere thank you to the Cow Head ambulance attendants, Dr. Butt and all nurses and staff at the Bonne Bay Health Center, who were very compassionate during this very difficult time.
The family will be receiving family and friends at the St. Mary’s the Virgin Anglican Church in Cow Head, NL, on Monday, August 14th, 2023, from the hours of 7-9 pm, and continuing on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, Morning from 10 – 12.
Where also the funeral service will take place on Tuesday August 15th, 2023, at 2:00 pm, with Rev Deacon Nora Shears officiating, and keeping with Adrian wishes cremation will take place with the inurnment to follow at a later date.
We know that our grieving families still need to feel the same level of support from you their family, friends, loved ones and community.
