In Loving Memory of Paul Rouhiainen (1954 – 2024)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Rouhiainen, aged 70, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Lakehead Manor.
Paul was born in Valkeakoski, Finland, on June 9, 1954. He immigrated to Canada in 1972, settling in Windsor, Ontario, where he lived with his oldest brother, Hannu, and sister-in-law, Irmeli.
Paul began working at Chrysler Canada before starting a business in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He later pursued his education at St. Clair College in Windsor, where he earned a diploma as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist. Following his graduation, Paul worked for several engineering companies in Windsor before moving to Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he joined Valmet Canada.
Paul’s career concluded in his role as Product Manager for Runnability Systems at Metso Paper, where he worked until his 50s. Afterwards, he followed his passion for Scandinavian culture by starting his own import business, bringing Scandinavian goods to Canada.
In Windsor, Ontario, Paul met the love of his life, Ulla, in 1979. Together, they celebrated 45 wonderful years of marriage this fall.
Paul had a deep love for the outdoors and travel, particularly fishing and spending time in the woods. Going for sauna’s was an important weekly tradition which his family will continue on. He also took great pride in building his family home and enjoyed working on various projects with his son, Stephen.
Despite facing health challenges his whole life and spending almost a year in the hospital recently, he found peace with God and was at peace with himself.
‘Something beautiful, something good; All my confusion He understood; All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife, But He made something beautiful of my life.’ By: Gloria Gaither
Paul will be profoundly missed by his wife, Ulla, his son, Stephen, family dog, Bella and extended family around the world, including his brother Hannu (Irmeli) in Victoria, B.C., his sister Eira in Tampere, Finland, his brother Kauko (Anja) in Keuruu, Finland, and their families. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
