Mrs. Grace Margaret Caraher, age 82 years, passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor on Friday, August 16th, 2024.
Grace was born at McKenzie Island (Cochenour) on December 13th, 1941, to Allan and Marie Hall (Usick) of McKenzie Island, Ontario. She married Michael Dwyer Caraher on April 30th, 1966, in Kenora, Ontario, where they met while both were working for the Ontario Provincial Police. Together they raised two children Morgan and Patrick, who were both born in Kenora. Grace and family lived in many different Northwestern Ontario communities due to Michael’s profession as a police officer, including Vermilion Bay, Armstrong, Manitouwadge, Red Rock and Thunder Bay, where she spent the last 40 years of her life. In addition to her time with the OPP, Grace also took on employment here and there in many of the communities in which they lived, and was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of the United Church of Canada and enjoyed curling, golf, gardening and travel. Highlights were vacations to England and France, and many trips to visit Michael’s large and much-loved extended family across the USA and Canada over the years.
Grace had several lifelong friendships, including Margaret (Marg), Carolyn, Silver Ann, Ruth and Rae. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the love, care and compassion of the staff at Roseview Manor where Grace had lived for the last two years, and to her dining companion Lorna there, with whom she would sit and talk for many hours past mealtimes.
Grace is survived by her husband Michael, sons Morgan (Denise) and Patrick (Christine) Caraher. She is predeceased by her parents Allan & Marie Hall (Usick), and brother Gordon.
A Memorial Service and inurnment will take place at a later date in Thunder Bay. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay would be appreciated.
