Margaret Mary Hawkins, a retired York Region School Board teacher, passed away in her 84th year, exactly 10 years and 10 days after her beloved husband, at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital. Margaret was born on December 31, 1939 to the late Alexander and Mary Gillespie. She was the beloved wife of 45 years to Frank Leslie Hawkins. A loving mother of Natasha and Griffith Hawkins, and cherished mother in law to Kristy. She was a fond aunt to nephews Warren and Wayne Hawkins and niece Karen Hopkins.
Margaret loved music and was a born communicator with a thirst for knowledge. She taught English before pausing to raise her children in their early years. She held a lifelong passion for learning and was an avid reader. Her eclectic interests included singing, playing the piano, theatre, politics, travel, art and history. Margaret cherished her long lasting close friendships. She was also interested in learning about her ancestry and found relatives in Quebec and Arizona.
Final arrangements entrusted to the care of Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. The family will be having a private Celebration of Life Ceremony in July. Memorial donations may be made to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation or the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.
