It is with a heavy heart that we need to share that our lovely Halla Rose Ahlefeld passed away February 5, 2023 surrounded by her family. She fought through every day to do the most and best she could with strength and determination. Sadly, Labrune Syndrome finally got a hold of her and wouldn’t let go. Halla had this magical ability to make an impact on every person she met. When she loved you, she loved you hard and it is unlike anything else you would feel. Her laugh would fill your soul and her smile was contagious. She could find a sliver of joy in even the darkest of times. She has left this world a little dimmer and a little quieter.
She leaves behind her beautiful sister Ayva, her mother Lindsey, her father Cameron, grandparents: Virginia and Steve, Harriet and Bob, Garry and Brenda, Uncle Dale, Auntie Sarah, Auntie Annie and cousins Anthony and Lukas…and so many more incredible people who could not all possibly be listed. Halla had this incredible gift to turn her friends into family.
As a family we want to thank everyone who loved and supported Halla during her short stay on this earth…with a special thanks to all of the amazing nurses and doctors who cared for Halla as if she were their own daughter. Without the amazing gifted medical professionals Halla had in her life she would not have been able to have the life she did.
We will not be having a service, at least not in the traditional sense. We will honour our Halla in true Halla fashion…eating prime rib and mashed potatoes with Shirley temples in a wine glass. We will listen to her favourite songs full of swear words and throw out extra f-bombs for her benefit.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Neurosurgery Kids Fund to honour and celebrate Hallas favourite place (camp Everest) and one of her favourite people (Wendy). Donations could also be made to the Labrune Syndrome gofundme to help raise money and awareness in the search of a cure. Halla’s sister is still fighting the fight.

Halla has left a permanent imprint on me, having worked briefly as her EA sub when she was at Brentwood Elem. She’d lean on her helpers arm to walk, so one day we belted out ‘Lean on Me’ in the schoolyard like hooligans. Another highlight was her mocking me for asking a grade 1 student if he was in kindergarten- ‘you DONT say that!!!’ (Laugh laugh laugh). I’ve told everyone how fun she was and I’m honoured to have briefly spent time with her
