Obituary
Zelda was born in Regina, SK to parents Laura and Henry Verpy. She grew up on the family farm near Loomis, SK. She attended school in Loomis and Eastend and after finishing her grade eight education at the age of 13, went to work for the Lutz family to keep house and look after their children. She worked for the Lutz family for several years and it was during this time she met Albert Glassford at a dance. Albert was renting farm land north of Loomis and they were married March 31, 1948. A marriage that lasted 67 years until his passing in 2015. In 1949, severe drought forced them off the land. Albert took a job on a farm south of Climax until moving to Eastend where they lived for about 12 years. Albert was then employed with the Eastend Coop which was to be his career for the next 33 years. The Coop took them to many communities throughout the province. Zelda worked as a grocery/clerk cashier at many of the coop stores Albert managed. First and foremost, Zelda was a mother and homemaker but throughout her life she held many different occupations which included a receptionist at a doctor’s office and a clerk in a clothing store. She was involved with the Royal Purple, Sister of the Rebekah Lodge since April 23, 1957, member of the Rosetown United Church & UCW.
Zelda loved to dance and old-time music. She played softball, golf, and liked to curl, & bowl. She loved to play cards, knit, and occasionally did craft and needle point. She was a great cook and housekeeper. She loved attending all her grandchildren’s events, it was the highlight of her life.
Zelda was hard working, honest, and a fun-loving person. Family and friends were very important to her and wherever she went she made friends and people enjoyed her company and her infectious laugh and smile. When she worked, she had a no nonsense, let’s get it done attitude. She had a big heart, was great cook, loved hosting celebrations. She did have a temper but it never lasted too long. She was always thoughtful and willing to share whatever she had. No matter where we lived mom always made it feel like home. She is deeply loved and will be sadly missed and in our memories forever.
Zelda is survived by her Children: Dale (Joanne), Ron (Elaine), Lorne (Allison); Grandchildren: Christina (Dr. Patrick Ling), Lynn (Mike Wytrykusz), Kerri (Kevin Pelletier), Tracy (Dustin Mischuk), Kelly (Perry Button), Lys Glassford (Lauren), Lana (Farron Nernberg), Tammy (Chad Desrosiers), Brenan (Sarah), Cole (Lindsay), Nathan (Chelsea), and Braden; Great-Grandchildren: Kevin (Jessica), Sydney, Sam, Jessica (Dylan), Matthew, Nolan, Austin, Ty (Haley), Adynne, Maddison, Kaylee, Leo, Hudson, Abbotte, Atticus, Bennet, Trenton, Everett, Brynlee, Brielle, Willow, Archer, Mary, Boone, Camden; Siblings: Joan Stuber and many nieces and nephews.
