After a swift battle with Brain cancer Yvonne passed peacefully with her loving husband Colin and her children Tina and Kris by her side, on Monday, June 27th, 2022, at her home in Trepassey, NL.
Yvonne had been an active member in her community during her 71 years, sitting on various committees and her involvement with the Town Council. She was someone that wanted to see change, embraced knowledge to allow her to do better, and stood firmly for causes she believed in.
She loved her husband Colin dearly, her Children Tina and Kris and more importantly her grandchildren and great-granddaughter with all her heart. Never missing a function, no matter how insignificant. She taught them to be strong-willed, determined and fearless. She enjoyed laughing and often would initiate the moment, loving to entertain. She immensely loved her brothers and sisters and with their shared sense of humor, gatherings were always robust and heartfelt. While being close to all her siblings, her love and connection to her sister and best friend, Valerie (Wilson) was beyond measure.
She loved a game of cards and more so loved the banter that went with it. Her dearest friends Brenda and Brendan Molloy, Ray and Anne Whiffen can attest to her desire to win, her need to be right and her smile and laughter that could fill a room when she yelled “Tick”.
She is predeceased by her parents Jerry and Magdalen Tobin; as well as her parents-in-law Jim and Dorthey Cheater and Brothers-in-law, Roy, Dennis and John Cheater.
She leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband Colin, her daughter Tina and her husband Rick (Halleran) and their children, Mackenzie (Amanda), Ireland and Regan and great granddaughter Skylar Hynes, her son Kris Power and wife Kendra (Kennedy) and their daughter Ava; her stepchildren Jeff Cheater (Lynn) and Jennifer Harris (Darrell) and her step-grandchildren children Brooklyn, Daniel and Morgan, and Alex; her sisters and brothers Geraldine Picco (Bernard ,deceased), Linda Hayward (Gerald, deceased), Sharon Tobin, Ray Tobin (Doreen), Rhoda Tobin (Ken), Valerie Wilson (Nick, deceased),Barry Tobin (Cheryl), Paula Tobin, Jerry Tobin (Arlene), Goldie Perry (Simon) and Connie Tobin (Andre); Don Power (Tina and Kris’s Father), and a very long list of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as a large circle of friends, including her childhood friend Carol Anne Devereaux.
Special Thank you to Dr. Heather Cuddy for her constant guidance and friendship during this hectic month, CH. Nurse Lorna Lawlor for her daily visits, CH. Nurse Michelle Rossiter for your support, Norma and Steve at Lawton’s Trepassey for keeping things organized, Dr. Maureen Gibbons for being available during her final hours, George Gibbons for your kindness to Kris and Colin, and a special thank you to Mark Dillion for your professionalism and kindness to Yvonne, Fr. Peter Golden for your friendship, and to all Yvonne’s friends and family that sent messages, food and support, we truly appreciated it.
We invite our friends and family to help celebrate her life on Friday, July 8th from 5-9, at Fahey’s Funeral Home Trepassey. On Saturday, July 9th a funeral procession will leave Fahey’s Funeral home at 11 with a short service at Holy Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the charity of one’s choice
