WOOD Warren George Harold 19512022

WOOD, Warren George Harold
1951-2022
It is with great sadness that we announce Warren’s sudden passing at the age of 71. Warren was pre-deceased by his parents, Gilbert and Irene and is survived by his sister Donna (Tim) and her four children Jennifer, Jordan, Jeremy and Hilary (Darcy) and his many friends.
Warren was born in Montreal but the family soon moved to Morin Heights where his heart remained for the rest of his life. The lakes, forests and mountain scenery inspired his creative spirit and led him to a lifetime of artistic discovery through wood carving, photography and his great passion for painting. While his oils were often admired and sold well, his home was still full of canvases depicting wildlife, rocky landscapes, serene winter snow cover and fall or summer lakesides. His camera and classic wooden easel with palette and brush boxes fitted with shoulder straps for wilderness sojourns were always near at hand.
Cross-country skiing took him to many of his painting locales but, living so close to the Laurentians, he was an accomplished down-hiller too, becoming a member of the local ski patrol. Among his fondest memories was skiing the French Alps with one of his best friends.
His interests were so varied it is hard to imagine all of them in one person. He was a self-taught guitarist and family and friends have recounted pleasant evenings listening to his twelve-string renditions of Lightfoot, Mitchell and others. He was fascinated by sailing ships and built meticulous wooden model reproductions of historical vessels but he was equally fascinated by astronomy and spent hours exploring and photographing the heavens through his telescopes.
His obsessions with the natural world notwithstanding he had an abiding interest in computer technology and programming. Before micro-computers were even sold in stores he got a circuit board kit and built his own. With this he taught himself programming which ultimately led to work in systems designer in Montreal until the pull of Morin Heights drew him back from the city.
Perhaps the most important element of his life was his abiding faith as a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall congregation in Morin Heights. He loved nothing more than studying sermons, helping others and working to expand his spiritual self. His friends and family are comforted that his faith holds the promise of ultimate resurrection.
Cremation and Interment have taken place but a service of remembrance will be held Saturday, Oct 1 at 1:30 at the Kingdom Hall, 700 rue Belise in Morin Heights.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada are welcome.
—————————————————————-
Cremation and Interment have taken place but a service of remembrance will be held Saturday, Oct 1 at 1:30 at the Kingdom Hall, 700 rue Belise in Morin Heights.
