It is with much sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, and friend William (Bill) Wilfred Almdal. Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife Rose, daughter Deanna (Arjan and mother Judy) and stepchildren Michael (Audra), Michele (Dave), Tania (Kaz) and Glenda (Randy). He is also survived by his grandchildren Colton, Harley, Jaden, Dayton and Levi and Ella as well as sisters-in-law Joan and Shirley, and many nephews, nieces and Danish relatives.
Bill was predeceased by his son Michael, parents Ivy and Theodor, brothers James, Lawrence, Neil and John .
Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the youngest of 5 boys born to Ivy and Theodor. He graduated in 1963 from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduating, he spent 10 years with the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Schefferville, Sept-Iles and Labrador City. In 1973 Bill relocated to Calgary where he worked for Shell Canada and Petro Canada. In 1984 he accepted a position with Syncrude in Ft. McMurray and he finished his professional career there 20 years later as the executive director of RIWG (Regional Issues Working Group).
William (Bill) was an active member of CIM (Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) for many years and served as president in 1995.
Bill received numerous accolades for his many volunteer involvements over the years. Some of his roles included president of Oakridge Community Association, policy chairman for the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party, Rotarian and others. Bill enjoyed travelling, curling, gardening, playing games and entertaining with family and friends. His humor and story telling will be missed by many.
