Obituary of Wilhelmina Bartels
Peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on Saturday, August 20, 2022, in her 97th year. Wilma was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerard (2016) and all her siblings and their spouses in both The Netherlands and New Zealand. Dear mother of Nellie (Roy), Mary and Betty, proud Oma of Sara (Kate), Benjamin, Jonathan (Sarah), Matthew (Emily), Jeffrey (Terri), and Great Oma of Cooper and Calvin. Wilma and Gerard immigrated from The Netherlands in 1951 and enjoyed farming in the Stirling and Belleville area for many years. Wilma was a skilled seamstress employed for many years at the Plainfield Children’s Home. In later years, Gerard and Wilma lived in Belleville. Wilma resided in Hastings Manor for the past six years and enjoyed close friendships there. The family would like to thank Larry and Margaret Byrne, Lynda, Theo, and Margaret Van Will, and the neighbours who supported and assisted Wilma in her later years. Special thanks are also extended to the staff of Hastings Manor and Belleville General Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, 169 North Park Street, Belleville on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Private family inurnment to follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Read. Arrangements entrusted to Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, Belleville (613-968-2273). If desired, donations to World Vision Canada, Belleville General Hospital Foundation, or Hastings Manor Fund would be appreciated by the family.
