Obituary
Wilfred “Willy” Craven
CRAVEN, Wilfred Mansel peacefully after a short battle with pneumonia on Monday December 19th in his 71st year at the Carleton Place Hospital. Predeceased by his parents Alvin and Mary Craven (nee Edwards). Special friend of Roger Watson, Dwight and Jeff Neron, and John Poole.
Born on a small farm outside of North Gower Ontario Willy started work with Banister Pipeline in 1969 when he was 18 years old. This career would last a remarkable 53 years. From first operating a Link Belt 98 shovel to being foreman on several jobs. Willy was involved in all aspects of pipelining and he was very proud and quick to inform that he had built the pipelines from the east coast to the west. Willy worked his last job in Kamloops British Columbia on the Coastal Gas Link. Willy had a need for speed and a passion for anything with an engine, if it ran he was trying to figure out how to make it go faster. He also had a very successful racing career when he wasn’t working. From racing cars to snowmobiles Willy was always found in first place at the Winners Circle. Willy was a lifelong Arctic Cat Snowmobile fan having owned well over 50 new Arctic Cat snowmobiles in his time. Willy was also a lifetime member of the Elphin Land Hunt Camp where he held the nickname “One Shot Willy”. He had a way of touching the countless number of friends.
We would also like to thank Dr. Stephen Walker and all of the nurses that cared for Willy while he was in the care of the Carleton Place Hospital.
At Willy’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations to the Carleton Place Hospital would be appreciated.
