Whitney, David Franklin
David Franklyn Whitney passed away at the Meaford Hospital on Monday, July 11, 2022.
Beloved husband of Fay (nee Blackburn) who he married on August 8, 1964.
He is survived by his brother, Jim and sister-in-law Linda (Dunkin) of Oakville and by his sister Ruth and brother-in-law Bill Long of Atwood.
David was born on November 24, 1938 at the Whitney farm in Brunner, Ontario, a son of the late Wesley Matthew Whitney and Jean (Curtis) Whitney.
Dave is remembered fondly by his nephews and nieces. They all remember his many stories and jokes where he kept everyone entertained at family gatherings and many social events. As one of them said, “I loved uncle Dave – he always made me laugh.” You have to love someone who makes you laugh.
Dave was a member of Meaford United Church and was actively involved in the maintenance of a section of the Bruce Trail for many years. He also learned to play the banjo and with Fay and friends they were very entertaining with Dave as the singer.
He was very active during his retirement, walking on the trails, biking, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing – long journeys that most people half his age would have found difficult. Fay was with him, often leading the way.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford United Church or the Wilfred Laurier University would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca
