Ward Kenneth “Kenny” Hooper
1943-2022
At Lincourt Manor, St.
Stephen NB on January 7, 2022, Mr. Ward Kenneth “Kenny”
Hooper, beloved husband to Carolyn (Justason) Hooper of Blacks Harbour
NB. Born at Back Bay NB on April 4, 1943, he was a son of the late
Sylvester and Catherine “Bessie” McCarty Hooper. A loving
husband, father, grandfather, brother and special uncle, he is
survived by his loving wife Carolyn, son; Greg (Korina), grandson; JD,
step granddaughters: Lindsay (Ian), Ashley (Cody), great grandsons:
Dylan and Liam, beloved nieces: Cindy Ferriere and Peggy McLeod, his
beloved brothers: Charles (Belva), Paul (Rhona), Phillip (Anita) and
Rodney (Bernice) Hooper , sister in law Verna Hooper, several nieces,
nephews and cousins as well as God Daughter; Jessica Hooper and
special neighbors Norman and Brenda Lambert. In addition to his
parents he was predeceased by his brother Harvey and brother in law
Maynard Justason and sister in law Pauline Tucker.
In his early years, Kenny liked to work closely with his
father in the general store in Back Bay. Following his graduation from
Back Bay Consoladated School, in the mid 60’s he moved to Toronto to
work for four years then decided to move back and marry the love of
his life, Carolyn of 53 years, and to begin his 40 year career as an
industrial mechanic at Connors Brothers. Kenny loved to be
active in local community events and politics, which led him to run
and serve on village council in Blacks Harbour for six years, then
becoming the longest serving Mayor in Blacks Harbour from 1986 to
2004.
In his spare time Kenny loved to help Carolyn and
Greg in the operation of their family business; Hooper’s
Convenience. Kenny also had a great love for all sports, in his
younger years as a rising star in basketball with his school and later
years on the baseball field, as he spent several years playing for
Back Bay as well as the Blacks Harbour Brunswicks. He also was a
dedicated official as he was seen for many years behind the plate
umpiring baseball or at the arena on the ice for minor hockey games or
keeping the peace during the Fundy League, JR’s or Silver Kings games.
As an avid Red Sox fan, his heart would be full when he would be on a
road trip to Fenway in Boston to watch his Red Sox’s, with his son
Greg and grandson JD. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends,
community and all who knew him.
In keeping with Kenny’s wishes there will be no visiting. A
graveside service will be held at the Stella Maris Catholic Cemetery
on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:00 am. In Kenny’s memory, donations
to a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude and
thanks to the management and staff of Lincourt Manor in St. Stephen NB
for their kind and compassionate care shown to Kenny and Carolyn as
well as the Hooper family during his stay.
