WALTON, Glenn Thomas
1928 – 2022
It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Glenn Walton on January 25, 2022, at the age of 93. He left us peacefully with family by his side at Temiskaming Hospital.
Glenn was born in Kirkland Lake to Marjorie Gertrude (Gillett) and Harold Emery Walton, on March 4th, 1928. He is survived by his son Michael (Cathy Dwyer), son-in-law Vaughan Ferguson, grandson Liam Ferguson, granddaughters Marci (Ferguson) Alexander (Dane Alexander), Savannah Peters (Myles Allen) and great-granddaughters Avery and Zoey Alexander. He is predeceased by his loving wife Cecile in 2011 and his daughter, Janet Ferguson in 2019. Also predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Harley, Ernie and Lesley.
Glenn enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter even at an early age. He would often venture into the bush with his brothers, spending the weekend snaring rabbits and catching fish, and would return in time for school on Monday. Over the years he gained more hunting companions; Roy Peters, Gord Spencer and Ron Sutton to name a few. Along with the great outdoors, Glenn had a passion for music. He loved playing his banjo, guitar and organ and played in the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Band as well as other various functions well into his 90’s.
Glenn and Cecile were married in 1952 and shortly afterwards started Glenn Walton Shoes. He later ran the business alongside his daughter Janet, until 2014, when he was forced into retirement at the age of 84 after the store burnt down. Glenn strongly believed he held the record for the longest running businessman in the community, with a career of 61 years.
Glenn was a dedicated member of the community. He and his wife Cecile, were both “Life Members” of the New Liskeard Lions Club. He had numerous friends and was loved by many. He never missed an opportunity to share stories and historical knowledge of the town and its people. He will truly be missed.
We are grateful for the care provided from the Northdale Manor staff and the Temiskaming Hospital, especially with the challenges of Covid-19.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held later this spring or summer.
If desired, donations may be made to the St Andrews Presbyterian Church, the Music Festival through the Temiskaming Community Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of WALTON Glenn Thomas 1928 2022..
