Walter Wyonzek 2022

Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Walter Wyonzek announce his passing at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on November 3, 2022, at the age of 90 years.
Walter ‘Wally’ Wyonzek was born on March 14, 1932, to Frank and Katie (nee Macala) Wionzek on the family farm near Hazel Dell, SK. The eleventh of twelve children, he received his education from Halycry School, attended Dobrowody Church, and spent his youth playing with his siblings and helping with farm chores.
At an early age, Walter sought employment at various northern mines. While working in Lynn Lake in 1965, Walter was in a plane crash with Bill Rehaluk and Larry Chalupiak. Fortunately, they all walked away unharmed. Walter also worked as a truck driver in the road construction industry.
On November 4, 1972, he married Grace Cymbalisty. He decided to return to farming and took over the family homestead. Walter loved farming and taught himself to be a mechanic, welder, plumber, electrician, and to basically do anything that needed doing.
Eventually, his nephew, Randy Wionzek, started farming with him. Walter loved Randy’s company and shared many good times with him. Following Randy’s sudden passing in February 2022, Walter was heartbroken and never was the same again. He became a sick man with many escalating health issues.
In October 2022, he was admitted to the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He fought a tough fight but lost his battle on November 4, 2022, just one hour short of what would have been celebrated as Walter and Grace’s 50th wedding anniversary.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Katherine; brothers: Walter (in infancy), Stanley, Marion, Joe, Ben, and Steve; and sisters: Nellie (in infancy), Helen, Emily, and Stella.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Grace Wyonzek; sister, Mary Sochan; and sisters-in-law, Mary Wionzek and Florence Wionzek; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Shawna Leson as certified celebrant. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
