Smith, Walter Layton – 82, East Wallace, passed away with his family by his side at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in East Wallace he was a son of the late Chesley and Kathleen (Coulter) Smith. Walter had worked at the Windsor Salt Mine in Pugwash, retiring after more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Guest) Smith; sons, John Smith, East Wallace, Terry (Bessie) Smith, Oxford, Trevor Smith (Tracey Furlong), Collingwood, Joey Smith, East Wallace; daughters, Annette (Greg) Hicks, Springhill, Laura Smith, Amherst; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Norman (Gurli) Smith, Malagash, Donald (Helen) Smith, Stoney Creek, ON, Larry (Cindy) Smith, Truro, Kevin (Christine) Smith, Wallace Station; sisters, Jean Mills, Rockley, Judy (Ken) Brogan, Gulf Shore; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother in law, Douglas Mills. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m.Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Mundle’s Funeral Home, Pugwash. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
