Obituary of Wally Niles
Wallace “Wally” George Niles, 87, passed away on July 12, 2022. Wally is lovingly remembered by many family members, including his sons Jim (Cyndy), Barry (Laura) and Wally Jr. (Michelle), grandchildren Mitchell (Alycia), Emily (Sarah), Chris, Scott and Dan, and great-grandchildren James and Maya. Wally is reunited with his predeceased, beloved wife Joan Niles (nee Gingrich).
Wally was born on July 6, 1935, to Olive and George Niles on Wolfe Island. Wally moved to Kingston as a young boy, where he later trained as a mason and met his future wife Joan. Wally and Joan started a family in Kingston Mills and later moved to their cherished community of Gananoque. Wally retired from a long service career at Correctional Service Canada. In his retirement he enjoyed long walks, golfing, playing cards, travelling with dear friends and family, and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren.
The Niles family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Waterford Kingston Retirement Residence, Dr. Maitland, Dr. Andrew and staff at Providence Care Hospital for their care and compassion. The family also wants to thank Wally’s dear friends Bud Wooding and Art Taugher for their constant support.
The family will hold a memorial gathering at the Tompkins Funeral Home in Gananoque on Saturday, August 6, from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m., followed by a chapel service and then a family-only graveside service.
Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke or UHKF – Providence Care Geriatric Mental Health.
