PUNKO, Wally Nick
It is with deep hearts and sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Wally Punko on October 17, 2022 in Westlock, Alberta at 59 years of age.
Wally is survived by his siblings: Harry, Leslie (Alana), Kenny Romanuik (Marilyn); daughter, Ayla Semeniuk; uncles, Henry (Mary Ann), Tony (Marguerite); Aunt Ellen and numerous cousins.
Wally was predeceased by his mother, Lena; father, Walter and older brother Anthony.
Wally was born in St. Paul, Alberta. He lived in Edmonton most of his life and some other towns on the way and finally settling in Westlock, Alberta. He had a special interest in music and working on inventions for a variety of products including oil field, camping and consumer products. Wally enjoyed composing music and lyrics, singing and playing six string, twelve string, bass or electric guitars.
He played in a number of local venues and in the 1990’s he performed with various incarnations of his band Justus and launched a national campaign to raise money to record a 45 rpm record that would help charities.
Among his patents was the “Tru View” system to provide visual indications of volume of liquid in large oil field storage units.
Wally was very personable and always glad to meet people and strike up a conversation. He will be very much missed by his family and his many friends and acquaintances.
