Violet Verena Longard Friday September 16th 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Violet Verena Longard. Born March 21, 1936 in Halifax, mom peacefully left us on September 16 at QE2 with family at her side. She was the middle child to the late Lois & Jerry Harnish and is predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Melvin Marshall Longard. Surviving are her daughters, Heather Longard of Fall River & Geri (Chuck) Barrington of Bedford, as well as 2 granddaughters, Lauren & Erin, and her youngest brother, Cyril (Sandy) Harnish; brother-in-law, Humphrey Longard; sister’s in law, Glenna (Percy) Doubleday, Viola Ganz, & Mable Bronstein. Mom was born in Fairview, but moved to Timberlea at age 10 where she spent the majority of her life & where she met the love of her life, Marshall & built a beautiful life together. She graduated from Halifax County Vocational School with a secretarial course & went to work first for the Department of Education in the Physical Education Department. Mom was very strong willed & determined, believing “where there is a will, there is a way” & didn’t believe in taking no for an answer. She was a very dedicated, hard worker & a “doer”, running Longard’s Trucking for 50 years, actually building our family home, was a major fund raiser for the construction of Sandy Lake Academy, a huge believer of volunteering her time & always giving back to many many charitable organizations. In 2018, she was very proud to see one of her dreams come true and to self publish a book she had written, “Trails & Truths – Memoirs of Melvin Marshall Longard”. Mom had many interests, including quilting, sewing, knitting, Girl Guide Leadership, scrap booking, poetry writing, plus so much more & she made the VERY BEST apple pies! She loved animals, especially cats & very much appreciated butterflies & watching birds at the feeder. Our mom, grandmother, sister & friend to many, will be greatly missed, but she fought a good battle, was determined to the end & is now resting & no longer in any pain. A special thank you to the loving & wonderful care provided to her in her last days at the QE2 Infirmary, 4.1 & specially to Peter who went over & above what is expected. Visitation will take place at Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Rd, Upper Tantallon, 4 to 7 pm, Wed, Sept 21 with Funeral Services held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 12494 Peggy’s Cove Rd, Tantallon, 11 am, Thurs, Sept 22, with Pastor David Crook officiating. Donations can be made to charity of choice. On-line condolences can be made at www.rawalker.ca
