Vernon Edward
Shay – 84, Great
Village. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
dear father, Vernon Edward Shay, on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Caledonia, Queens
County, he was a son of the late Frederick and Marjorie (Brooks)
Shay.
On February 1, 1960, Dad married Judith Mary Oxner and they
had three children together. Dad was known for his generous spirit and
his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He
valued his time with family and friends, often spending time with them
around a campfire or at the table playing crib. He loved listening to
music and playing his guitar. He loved watching his grandchildren in
their activities, spending countless hours at the rink, motocross
track and at dance performances. He supported community and was a
long-time volunteer at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 106, Debert. He
will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Vernon is survived by his children, Gregory (Penny), Wendy
(Steve), Jeffery (Tracey); seven grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; siblings, Bill, Freda
(John); several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was
predeceased by our mother, Judith (Oxner); siblings, Marion, Audrey,
Kathleen, Earle, Marjorie, George, Wilfred, Teddy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Vernon’s
family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2022.
Private interment at a later date. If so desired, donations in
Vernon’s memory to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 106,
