Obituary of Verna Marie Oakes
Verna Marie (Grant) Oakes, 65, of Hopewell, passed away unexpectedly on June 22nd in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Verna is survived by her partner, Bill Holley; children, Beth Cameron (Greg), Sylvester; Robert Oakes (Katelyn Lees), Hopewell and Emily Oakes (Eric Parker), Durham; stepson, Justin Holley (Jaleesa Denis), BC; sisters, Vivian Edwards, New Glasgow and Brenda MacLean (David), Hopewell; granddaughters, Jessica and Abigail Cameron, Lola Parker, and Harlow Holley; nieces Maxine and Michelle MacLean and great-niece, Madeline Smallman; nephews, Brent Edwards, Nathan MacLean and great-nephew, Michael Edwards and stepfather, Malcolm “Satch” Vickers. Verna was predeceased by her parents, Anna (Matheson) and Gerald Grant, and nephew, Glenn Edwards.
Verna was employed with Goodman MacDonald Law (currently Patterson Law) for 33 years. Up until the time of her passing, Verna fully enjoyed her role as the firm’s Title Searcher and was highly regarded for her meticulous attention to detail. She was an avid gardener and loved spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held at H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow on Sunday, June 26th from 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held Monday, June 27th at 10am, also from H.W. Angus Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will follow at the Hopewell Cemetery.
Donations in Verna’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
