Uram, James Richard ‘Jim’
Jim passed peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Victoria Hospital in London after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathy (nee Ruthven), children Kevin Simons (Jennifer), Sarah (James McGeachie), Jaimi (Jon Lenson) and very proud Gramps, Grampy and Poppa to Jocelyn, Gabrial, Avery, Ethan, Blake and Molly.
Born in Toronto on October 2, 1947, Jim was the son of the late Fred and Mary (nee Hoshko) Uram.
He is survived by his brother Michael (Helen) Uram, was predeceased by his sister Rose and her husband John Bragg, and will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews and their families.
Jim was very proud of his family and loved each one endlessly.
Jim attended Ryerson College/ University, and upon graduating became a Professional Urban Planner serving the Twp. of Tiny, County of Grey, Clearview Township, The Municipality of Meaford and Town of the Blue Mountains having a career spanning over 40 years.
Most recently Jim was an active member of the Town of The Blue Mountains Council where his dedication and passion for this town and community shone. Anyone who knew him knows he would stand his ground and fight for what he believed was right.
He was also a proud member of the past Beaver Valley Kinsmen and the K40 Club.
Jim was a man of many talents, a lover of music and musician, a woodworker and a craftsman. We were always excited when Jim would go to the workshop to tinker and come up with his next hand made craft.
We also depended on Jim to fix our toys and prize possessions and the phrase “If Poppa can’t fix it, we are screwed” comes to our minds on a regular basis, a real MacGyver.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to ‘the girls’ at the lab at the Meaford Hospital, Dr. Sandhu and the wonderful nurses in the Oncology Department in Owen Sound Hospital. Thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Victoria Hospital in London for the amazing care you took of Jim, he always told me he was having fun with you.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Jim’s Life will take place at the Marsh Street Centre on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 2 until 5 p.m.
