Una Frances Porter (McCumber)

Una Porter passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the University of Alberta Hospital on March 28, 2022, at the age of 89 years.
The third of five children born to Harold and Ada McCumber in St. George, New Brunswick on September 9, 1932, Una grew up in St. Martins before training to be a registered nurse at the General Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick. In 1954, Una married George Porter and the pair had five children while George served in the Canadian Forces. Una and George settled in Edmonton, Alberta in the late-1960s. Una was a homemaker who enjoyed and excelled at sewing and cooking, and she was also keenly interested in the news and world affairs.
Una is survived and greatly missed by her husband of close to 68 years, George; her sons, Gary (Trisha) Porter and Greig (Sue) Porter; her daughter, Andrea (Gord) Chrenek; grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Porter, Layla Porter, Sara Porter, Emma Chrenek and Jennifer Chrenek; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Mason, Abigail and Kaleb; her sister, Joyce Livingstone of Saint John, New Brunswick; her sister-in-law, Sharon McCumber of Welland, Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Una was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Susan; her son, Geoffrey; her brothers, Arnold “Ginger” (Cora) McCumber and Douglas McCumber; and her sister, Alma (Don) Moore.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff on unit 5F4 at the University of Alberta Hospital.
At Una’s request, a family only memorial will be held at a later date. Rest easy Mom, we love you.
