Obituary
Anthony (Tony) George Santacroce, 64, of Toronto, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was surrounded by the love of family and friends at the time of his passing.
Tony was predeceased by loving parents Dina D’Amico and Antonio (Tony) Santacroce, much loved brother and sister, Walter (Wally) and Virginia (in Pacitto), and dear uncle Benito (Benny) D’Amico. He is survived by loving brother-in-law, Joe Pacitto, much loved niece and nephew, Laura and Paul. He will be sorely missed by former spouse and loving friend, Angela Gulia.
Tony was born in Scarborough May 14, 1958. As a little boy, Tony attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School, then Chaminade College School, Nelson A. Boylen Secondary School 1977-78, and Marvel Hairdressing School 1978-79.
Always of lover of music, as a teenager he played drums in a band called the Chipmucks. As a young man he worked at Vidal Sassoon in Yorkville, enjoyed socializing with friends and going to dance clubs; even competing in local competitions. Later he became interested in cooking and starting working in the food service industry. After waitering at the Skyline Hotel on Dixon Rd, he opened Tony’s Take Out Restaurant at Dundas and Church St. just across the street from his uncle’s antique store and boxing gym and he worked there until he was no longer able to due to health issues.
For many years he lived at Yonge and Ranleigh, stayed active as a member of the Taoist Tai Chi Society, and Variety Village. At home he loved soccer, watching reruns of old movies, and keeping up with currents events.
Tony was strong, lovely and gentle; never complaining, always patient, kind and quick to bring about a smile with his playful sense of humour. A devoted family man in so many ways: never missed a holiday, made daily wake-up calls, ran errands, provided the best cat sitting; unsurpassed shopping companion, personal confidante, and life coach. He will be missed by the very many whose lives he touched with his friendship, good nature and love of life. He has been an inspiration.
Sincere thanks to staff at Sunnybrook Hospital, Lyndhurst and St. Michael’s Hospital, WheelTrans, psw’s and everyone who extended their love, care and kindness over the years. Special thanks to all the “angels” of 9 North at Hennick Bridgepoint Rehab Hospital for their compassionate care these last two very challenging years.
