Obituary
Tom passed away suddenly on Friday, August 19, 2022 in Summerland, BC. Tom was born on September 18, 1955 in Kamloops, BC.
He was predeceased by his father, Edgar Hayes Kinvig; mother, Ellen Barbara Kinvig (Urvold) and brother-in-law, Daryl Wheeler.
Tom is survived by his siblings, Monty (Julia) Kinvig, Vivian Wheeler, Ed (Deb) Kinvig; 8 nieces & nephews; 19 great nieces & nephews; 5 great-great nieces & nephews; many cousins; ex-partner, Marg Hansen and her daughters, Mindy & Amanda and many, many friends.
He touched the hearts of many and made the world a better place and will be fondly remembered for being a genuine friend, a true gentleman, friendly, compassionate, kind, generous, considerate, amiable and loving.
Tom was a life-long resident of Summerland and worked on the railway before taking over operation of the Kinvig Family Orchard. He had a twinkle in his eye, a quick wit and was a fan of the CBC Radio, Stuart McLean and Stompin Tom Connors. Tom was active in the community with hockey & baseball, wrestling, ladies broom ball, the BC Fruit Growers Association, the Summerland Fall Fair, bartending for local events, supporting the ALR & farming initiatives and was one of the founding members of the Summerland Heritage Cider Company – born of Tom Tuesdays. Summer was the time for family to gather in the orchard, enjoy peaches & ice cream, dune buggy rides and games of kick the can. He sold the Orchard in 2021 and spent the past year surrounded by the family & friends he loved so much.
A service for Tom will be held at the Summerland United Church on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Shop or a charity of choice in Tom’s memory.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Thomas Harold Kinvig September 18 1955 August 19 2022 (age 66)..

Very very sad to learn of Tom’s passing. I remember him well as my friend and classmate growing up in Summerland. My sister spoke very kindly of Tom and I will always remember him fondly from those school days…
RIP friend

Tom, you left us much too soon. We had so many good times together as we grew up, and later when we were supposed to be grown up! Your big smile and happy attitude was a bright light for all. If I had a choice of anyone in the world for a cousin, you would be my first choice!
RIP Cousin Tom.
