It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Bishop, 94, of Pine Grove, announces his passing on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in English Harbour West, NL, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Esther (Hatch) Bishop.
In his earlier years, he was a fisherman, in Newfoundland. He then came to Lunenburg to fish, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Veinotte. From there he moved to Toronto, with only $200.00 in his pocket. He found work at Snap On Tools and worked there for 30 years.
Later, he and his wife became Superintendent’s, looking after an Apartment Complex, in King City, Toronto and togeather, worked there for 8 years. Tom dabbled at a few things in his younger days, such as body building, he also studied art under Norman Rockwell for a time.
He loved country and western music, he and his wife Dorothy would go to a dance every weekend. After retirement, Tom and his wife moved back to Nova Scotia, and after many moves in and around Bridgewater, they settled in Pine Grove, until his passing.
Another of Tom’s greatest loves were Margo and Joy, their Schnauzer dogs. He loved them dearly. He had many neighbors, who befriended him and became his extended family, especially Debbie (Doug) Woodworth, friends and neighbors, who became caretakers, becoming ‘family”. He will be missed by them all.
Tom is survived by his wife Dorothy, of 73 years, sisters, Mary Butler, Emily King, both of St. John’s, NL; sister-in-law, Barbara Davidson and brother-in-law, George Veinotte; niece, Maureen and husband Gary Evans.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Eileen Fiander, Rita Rixon and two brothers, Benjamin and Robert Bishop.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, with visitation Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Laura Marie Piotrowicz officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination and masking required.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society. would be appreciated by the family.
