Gallant – On November 12,
Theresa Gallant aged 85 years of Summerside, daughter of the late
Charles and Rose Barrett, departed this world, leaving behind a lot of
teary eyes and millions of wonderful
memories.
Beloved and devoted wife to Clifford, the two were married
for 64 years and provided an example of what true love should look
like. Times weren’t always easy, nor were they perfect, but
there were many amazing moments and through everything, they
maintained a deep mutual respect for one another. Together
they raised 5 children: Marion (David), Colleen (Jimmy), Brent
(Gloria), Ronnie (Susan) and Tanya (Bobby), all of whom adored their
mother, as was evidenced by the care they provided her during her
later years. Theresa was blessed with many grandchildren:
Claudette, Drew, Ainsley, Jillian, Morgan, Conor, Brandon, Masen,
Hanna, Brett-Lynn, Pearse, Mackenzie and Emily, whom she loved dearly.
Later, she found a special place in her heart for her 10
great-grandchildren. No one ever left her house without
being sent off with a hug.
Theresa is also survived by her sisters: Thelma, Bonita,
Alice Faye, Helen and Betty, as well as her sister-in-law Elizabeth
Gallant.
She now rests with her grandchildren: Matthew, Barrett and
Jennifer; sisters: Gertrude, Frances, Yvonne, Isabel and Eilleen;
brothers: Fred, Jack and Milton, and Stephen and Thelma (in
infancy).
Theresa was many things to many people. Kind,
caring and helpful are a few words that describe her best. A
fantastic cook, she always had an open door and a seat at the table
for anyone passing by. Her family can attest that she was a
wonderful mother and grandmother. Theresa was funny and
loved a good joke, even if she was at the butt end of it.
Throughout her life she was a great caregiver to Clifford,
but especially so in the later years as his health failed and she
worked to keep him at home with her. An avid traveller, she
trotted the globe in her younger years and into retirement, making
many lifelong friends along the way. Theresa loved reading,
politics and any topic that was health-related. She
appreciated art and was a talented artist in her own right (even if
she’d tell you differently). A perfect evening for Theresa,
was an evening spent at the campground, surrounded by family and
friends, while an evening spent watching sports was a waste of
time.
Tess, mom, nanny, or her favourite, old nanny, will be dearly
missed but fondly remembered by anyone fortunate enough to know
her.
Theresa’s family would like to thank the staff of the Prince
County Hospital for the wonderful care she received during her final
months.
